Sacred Heart of Jesus
The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In scripture and tradition, the Sacred Heart of Jesus is venerated through centuries. The heart of Jesus symbolises His love for mankind. His wounded heart brings us healing and consolation. His meek and humble heart teaches us to follow His ways, “… learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Mt 11:29-30).
The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is very powerful because when we venerate His most adorable heart, He transforms us and replaces our hearts with His heart. “I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh” (Ezek 36:26).
Pope Saint John Paul II quotes these statement on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, “I have often urged the faithful to persevere in the practice of this devotion, which contains a message which in our day has an extraordinary timeliness, because an unending spring of life, giving hope to every person, has streamed precisely from the Heart of God’s Son, who died on the Cross. From the Heart of Christ crucified is born the new humanity redeemed from sin. The man [of today] needs Christ’s heart to know God and to know himself. He needs it to build the civilization of love.”
The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is so profound that Jesus in His revelations to St. Margaret Mary, made twelve extraordinary promises to those who practice and promote the Devotion to His Sacred Heart.
Promises of Jesus:
- I will give all the graces necessary for one’s state of life.
- I will establish peace in their families.
- I will console them in all their troubles.
- I will be their refuge during life and, above all, in death.
- I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.
- Sinners will find in My Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
- Lukewarm souls will become fervent.
- Fervent souls will quickly rise to high perfection.
- I will bless every place where an image of My Heart is exposed and honoured.
- I will give priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
- Those who promote this devotion will have their names written in My Heart.
- Jesus promises the grace of final perseverance to those who receive Holy Communion on the first Fridays of nine consecutive months.
“The door of Heaven is the Heart of Jesus. The key to this door is prayer and love.” St. André Bessette
