Season of Easter
During the season of Lent, we prepare ourselves for Easter, and during the season of Easter, we prepare ourselves for Pentecost. Each season is a preparation for us to come closer to Jesus Christ. We journey through repentance, penance, sanctification, renewal, and proclamation.
All our troubles, problems, pains, and sufferings are the consequences of sin. At Easter, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ which brings victory over sin. Easter is the greatest feast of all because it defeats every power of evil. The glorious morning when Jesus Christ rose from the grave. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of our Christian faith and the source of our eternal hope. – Saint Leo the Great
The Season of Easter continues for 50 days from Easter Sunday until Pentecost Sunday. On the eight day of Easter we celebrate the Divine Mercy Sunday, a day of great mercy and grace, in which we receive complete expiation for sins, for those who humbly receive the promise of Jesus Christ at this great feast day.
40 days after Easter, we celebrate the Ascension of Christ, and hold on to the promise that He will come soon. Easter brings us great hope that Jesus Christ who ascended into heaven will return to take us with Him.
50 days after Easter, Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost, we invite the Holy Spirit to renew our heart within us and help us grow in virtue and grace, prepared to share the Good News with others.
The season before Easter signifies the troubles in which we live here and now, while the time after Easter which we are celebrating at present signifies the happiness that will be ours in the future. What we commemorate before Easter is what we experience in this life; what we celebrate after Easter points to something we do not yet possess. This is why we keep the first season with fasting and prayer; but now the fast is over and we devote the present season to praise. Such is the meaning of the Alleluia we sing. – St. Augustine of Hippo
