Anxiety effects everyone, in small and big ways. It could be minor concerns of everyday life or it could be extremely debilitating and life threatening. It might be just a passing phase of life or it may perhaps be a lifestyle.

Anxiety is a feeling of uneasiness, also known as nervousness, worry, trauma, stress, concern, fear or phobias. Anxiety causes minor to serious mental and physical health problems. It hampers a person’s social skills, decision making and life in general.

anxietyThere is none that can escape anxiety, but the good news is, we all can learn to deal with it. If we change our perspective, we can change our lives and be anxious no more. As easy as it may sound, just having the knowledge of it does not automatically make you anxiety-free. Reading this article, but not applying it in your life, will not benefit you.

Let me repeat, you will have to work around these principles of being anxiety-free for it to work in your life. Otherwise, having knowledge about the right thing to do, will not benefit you, if you don’t work with those principles and apply them to your life.

Anxieties are usually related to: The fear and uncertainties of the future; the conflicts and issues in the present; and the regrets and mistakes of the past.

Identify what is the cause of your anxiousness or what is your anxiousness related to. It could be present issues or it could be the stuff of the past, present and the future that are the causes of your anxiousness. Analyse your thoughts and get into the details and figure out the specific causes of your anxiety. Better still, write them down or type it out, every one of them, the insignificant and the major causes of your anxiety.

If you had your upbringing in a Christian family or if you have been a Christian for a long time, you probably heard about these bible verses before, that I am about to give you. The main question I want to ask you is, are you still an anxious person? If you have answered, yes, I want you to read these scriptures, as if you were reading it for the first time and please memorise them, so that you can hang on to these words, every time you have an anxiety attack.

Here it is. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things (Philippians 4: 6-8 NASB).

The first step you need to do is BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING. Whatever you may be anxious about, you have to stop thinking about it. You must have heard people that care about you, tell you many times before, “Please do not worry”, but you worried anyway.

By now, through your own life experiences, you will have realised that most of the things you worried about never happened. You may say, “What about those things that did go wrong?”

Hear the secret, there is nothing that will ever happen to you, that you are not capable of enduring. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.(1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV).

You may say, “What about those people that met with a disaster and died?” It was probably their time to go. There is only one cause of a premature death and that is anxiety. People make wrong choices, because they cannot think clearly, when they are anxious.

Anxiety creates more problems and no solutions. Anxiety makes a bad situation worse, it’s like getting caught in a quicksand. The more you struggle the deeper you go. Your chances of survival increases if you relax, pray, think through, call for emergency rescue or cry out loud for help.

The only way, you can stop being anxious about everything is to have faith on someone that’s greater than your problems, and that is God. If your faith is in God, then you will not be anxious for anything. If you lack faith, you will continue being anxious.

In other words, anxiousness is a lack of faith in God. You may be a Christian all your life, but if you are anxious, you don’t have enough faith. So, the first step is to build up your faith in God. You do so, by trusting God with your problems. You may not have control over your situations and issues of life, but God certainly has. So do you have the confidence in God, and can you let go and let God handle your problems for you.

Your next step to be free of anxiety is to put your faith into action by praying about your concerns. in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

We are to pray about everything that concerns us. Bring your list of anxieties and offer them as your petitions and make every request with earnestness, pleading to God with perseverance in prayer. Thanking God for everything He has already done for you and also thanking Him with the assurance that He will answer your prayers.

When we are able to walk in faith, trust God and lift all our concerns in prayer. The peace of God which exceeds all understanding will protect us from all anxieties. When God is our help, He will solve our problems and nothing can burden us or hassle us.

The last step to be free from anxiety is to re-new our minds. If we think about our problems, situations, circumstances, illnesses and burdens, we will only be filled with anxiety. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

God alone is true, honourable, right, pure, lovely, good repute, excellence, and worthy of praise. Focus not on your problems but rather focus on God and His goodness. Meditate on His words concerning your problems. When our lives are consumed by God and we are constantly relying on Him and dwelling in His presence, we will be immune to anxiety.

Life is full of anxiety that will show up now and then. To be anxious for nothing is not a one-time attempt. We have to make it a habit, so that we do not worry about anything, but lift everything up in prayer. Think constantly about things that are of God instead of things that causes anxiety.

When you change your perspective, you change your life. The same things that held you hostage to anxiety can now become your petitions to God and bring you closer to Him and closer to your peace that surpasses all understanding.
