Enter Through the Narrow Gate
We begin our journey of life at birth, which provides us with various pathways. This journey of life does not end with death but continues beyond our earthly existence, into eternity. Although, death is the end of this life on earth, which is short and passes away swift, eternity is unending and there are only two pathways, eternity in heaven or eternity in hell. We choose this pathway to eternity not after our death but during our life. Therefore, how we live our lives now and the choices we make while we live, will determine where we will be for eternity. There is only one God, our Lord Jesus Christ, and He shows us the ways to eternal life in heaven.
When a person chooses Jesus Christ, he chooses eternal life, if a person reject Jesus Christ and His teaching, he chooses eternal death. God loves us eternally and wants us to be with Him. However, we must accept Him into our lives to be saved. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
To enter heaven and live eternally we must follow Jesus Christ alone because He alone can lead us to heaven. There are many who lead others astray, but we must be committed to imitate Jesus Christ alone and no one else. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6).
The pathway to heaven is difficult and requires great efforts. To remain on this pathway one must be intentional, resilient, discerning, and persevering. One must become a humble and obedient discipline of Jesus Christ. One must trust the Lord and walk with righteousness and live by faith. On the other hand, the pathway to hell is appealing to many as it is easy and popular and requires no discipline, obedience, or wisdom. This easy pathway is perilous and eventually leads to destruction and separation from God and eternal death.
“Enter through the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Mt 7:13-14 NRSVUE).
Even though the pathway to heaven is difficult, it is most rewarding and the best pathway, because it leads us to eternal life. The teachings of Jesus Christ are certainly difficult, but for us who love Him, there is no other way, no other option, for Jesus Christ alone is the way, the truth, and eternal life.
