Guardian Angel
We all have a guardian angel whose primary role is to lead us to heaven and to guard us while here on earth. Our guardian angel speaks to our conscience and corrects us from our wicked ways, leads us to repentance, and sanctification.
We can invoke our guardian angel every day and pray the following prayer:
Angel of God, my Guardian dear,
to whom His love commits me here,
ever this day/night be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God (CCC 336).
As purely spiritual creatures, angels have intelligence and will: they are personal and immortal creatures, surpassing in perfection all visible creatures, as the splendour of their glory bears witness (CCC 330).
Angels have unlimited access to God’s presence and move between realms. We should be mindful not to hurt other Christians because their guardian angel pleads before God, requesting God to intervene. Jesus emphasised this by saying, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 18:10)
Some people can see angels. Some saints had great companionship with their guardian angels. Some people are assigned with more than one angel, especially, people who have a special mission. The angels participate in good works. Therefore, we can see great miracles and healing. Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:14)
