What does the heart symbolise? It symbolises life, mercy, love, and compassion. Scientifically, the heart is a vital organ, which pumps blood and oxygen throughout the body. Spiritually, the heart symbolises the core of our being, a place where Jesus wants to dwell. Our prayers and affections for God, arise from our heart. God also speaks to our heart, in return. We all have a heart, but amongst all the hearts that ever existed or will exist, there is only one heart which is above all, supreme, precious, and adorable, and it is the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). God proves His love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). The Sacred Heart of Jesus overflows with God’s boundless love for all mankind.

Saint Pope John Paul II declared that “In the Sacred Heart, every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is hidden. The Heart of the Lord Jesus is the starting point of the holiness of each one of us. From the Heart of the Lord Jesus let us learn the love of God and understanding of the mystery of sin. Let us make acts of reparation to the Divine Heart for the sins committed by us and by our fellow men. Let us make reparation for rejecting God’s goodness and love. Let us draw close each day to this fount from which flow springs of living water. Let us cry out with the Samaritan woman “Give us this water”, for it wells up to eternal life.”

The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the devotion to the Divine Mercy connects with the Heart of Jesus and brings abundant graces in our lives. A simple novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus will bring you many blessings. Pray this novena by stating your intentions “May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be adored, praised and glorified throughout the world, now and forever Amen”.
