Lenten Retreat, Day 36: God’s Power Made Perfect in Weakness
We begin with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Examine your conscience. (Take a few minutes. In silence, remember and feel sorry for your sins, and think of ways you will amend your life.)
Pray the Act of Contrition.
Weakness, frailty, illness, disorders, dullness are traits that are despised in our world. However, these are the attributes that attract God’s power in our lives. God’s power is God’s grace. God is not looking for the powerful, but He is looking for those who are weak. We all have some weaknesses within us. Even if we are good in some things, we may be deficit in others. Thereby, we all can become a vessel for God’s grace. Weakness must also consist of humility for God’s grace to abide. Everyone is weak in some ways, but not everyone has the grace of God within them, because many people, although they are weak, they are too proud to receive God’s grace. Therefore, sisters and brothers, remain humble so that God may find you useful for His Kingdom.
St Paul discovered the power of weakness. In his second letter to the Corinthians, God speaks to him saying, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
St Francis of Assisi requests us to be patient because the weaknesses of the body are given to us in this world by God for the salvation of the soul. So, they are of great merit when they are borne patiently.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
