Lenten Retreat, Day 33: Eucharistic Adoration
We begin with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Examine your conscience. (Take a few minutes. In silence, remember and feel sorry for your sins, and think of ways you will amend your life.)
Pray the Act of Contrition.
Eucharistic adoration is an extension of the Eucharist we receive during Mass. Adoration gives us the opportunity to be in the presence of Jesus, beyond the Mass. Adoration is a necessary devotion for all who want to have a closer relationship with Jesus. It helps us enter the Holy of Holies. In the Old Testament, everyone did not have access to enter the tabernacle, into the Holy of Holies. Jesus Christ now gives this great privilege to everyone to enter the Holy of Holies, during adoration.
Adoration is the first attitude of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the “King of Glory,” respectful silence in the presence of the “ever greater” God. Adoration of the thrice holy and sovereign God of love blends with humility and gives assurance to our supplications (CCC 2628).
The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease (CCC 1380).
“The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time that you will spend on earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlasting more glorious and beautiful in heaven and will help bring about an everlasting peace on earth.” Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
