The Beatitudes are the must-have attitudes for every Christian. Jesus Christ gave us these Beatitudes on His sermon on the mount. In our earthly life, we face challenging circumstances, which can upset us. Therefore, to encourage us on our earthly journey, the Lord gives us His blessings in the Beatitudes. The Lord is ever generous, and He gives us abundant graces. We can now be glad in these situations because we know we are blessed by God, whenever we endure these things. Please read and meditate on the Beatitudes and pray and ask the Lord to give you a new attitude, that is in accordance with the Beatitudes (Mt 5:1-12).

The Beatitudes

1 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

The Beatitudes depict the countenance of Jesus Christ and portray his charity. They express the vocation of the faithful associated with the glory of his Passion and Resurrection; they shed light on the actions and attitudes characteristic of the Christian life; they are the paradoxical promises that sustain hope in the midst of tribulations; they proclaim the blessings and rewards already secured, however dimly, for Christ’s disciples; they have begun in the lives of the Virgin Mary and all the saints (CCC 1717).
