Lenten Retreat, Day 29: Walk by Faith and Not by Sight
We begin with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Examine your conscience. (Take a few minutes. In silence, remember and feel sorry for your sins, and think of ways you will amend your life.)
Pray the Act of Contrition.
“To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible” (St Thomas Aquinas). This faith, that we have, is a gift from God. We begin to believe, see, and comprehend everything about God, through faith. For by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast (Ephesian 2:8-9).
We have a responsibility to respond to the faith that is gifted to us, to share this faith with others, and we also are responsible to live our faith, by not walking according to circumstances, but solely by faith in God. We see and know God through our faith. Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” (Mark 9:23). Like the apostles, we can ask Jesus to increase our faith, because without faith, we are ignorant to the ways of God.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
