Lenten Retreat, Day 15: The Way of the Cross
We begin with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Examine your conscience. (Take a few minutes. In silence, remember and feel sorry for your sins, and think of ways you will amend your life.)
Pray the Act of Contrition.
The most remarkable journey, that every took place, in the history of creation, is the Via Dolorosa, also known as the way of the cross, that Jesus took on His way to Calvary. The last walk of Jesus to Calvary, paved our way to eternity. His cross became our salvation, His suffering became our redemption, His wounds became our healing, His cries became our joys, His shame became our glory, and His death became our resurrection.
We, too, will take our last walk on earth. We do not know when, where, and how. But, if we walk the way of the cross, in our lives with Jesus, meditating and pondering on the last sufferings of Jesus Christ, in the 14 stations of the cross, we will unite our life with His death, and thereby, gain the cross of glory. When we take our last breath, we will be accompanied by the angels, on the journey to heaven, because we who have lived with Christ, will be with Him for eternity.
Praying the way of the cross, helps us to take a pilgrimage with Jesus. He suffered for us, we too must suffer with Him. Jesus said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
