Lenten Retreat, Day 8: Pray the Rosary Everyday
We begin with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Examine your conscience and feel sorry for your sins. (Take a few minutes. In silence, remember and feel sorry for your sins, and think of ways you will amend your life.)
Pray the Act of Contrition.
The Queen of Heaven is also Our Lady of Grace. The angel came to Mary and said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28). She is filled with all graces, and since she is also our Mother, she wants us to have abundance of graces for our spiritual life. Grace is the help God provides us to do things that we are unable to do on our own. Without grace, we cannot progress in our spiritual life. God gives abundance of grace to us through our Blessed Mother Mary, as she is the beacon who radiates all spiritual graces. Some may say that they can get all the graces they need from Jesus alone. Surely, Jesus Christ is God Almighty, and He gives all the graces. However, He has given us His Mother to distribute all the graces we need.
In our natural life, we need a mother. How much more will we need a mother in our spiritual life? A child, without a mother, is an orphan, and such children usually struggle through life. A child faces all sorts of miseries without a mother. Unfortunate is a person who has no mother. Likewise, in our spiritual life, we need a mother. Our Saviour Jesus Christ is very generous, and He gives His own Mother to us. In His dying moment, while facing the agony on the cross, Jesus gave us His Mother. All those who embraces this parting gift of Jesus, His Blessed Mother to us, embraces all the graces Christ has to offer.
The best way to plead to our Mother for her help and graces is to pray the rosary every day. St John Paul II testified that the Rosary is a prayer both so humble, simple, and theologically rich in biblical content that he begs us to pay it. St Louise De Montfort stated that when the Holy Rosary is said well, it gives Jesus and Mary more glory and is more meritorious than any other prayer.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
