How did everything come into existence? Faith gives us the answer to our question. Faith is a gift from God. It is by faith we know all that we know, and faith comes from the word of God. The first verse in the first chapter of the first book in the bible, explains how it all began. In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day (Genesis 1: 1-5, NRSV).

The easiest way to find answers to all questions in life is through faith. However, when we try to know the truth without faith, we are left with questions that have no answers. Faith is the key that unlocks knowledge and wisdom. Without faith, we have only information but no wisdom on how to apply it or connect it to the truth.

Theologians and scientists both agree that the universe is fine-tuned for life. A meticulously and incredibly fine-tuned universe has a fine tuner. By faith, we know it is God who created all things into being. By faith, we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made from things that are visible (Hebrews 11:3).

The structure of our universe is determined by fundamental constants, from the smallest subatomic particles to the galaxies. These numbers are adjusted to a very precise value that falls within an exceedingly narrow range to permit any form of life. If any of these numbers were altered, even by a small segment, no physical or interactive life of any kind could exist anywhere. There would be no chemistry, no stars, no planet, or no life of any form. For example, gravity is determined by the gravitational constant. If this constant varied just by one infinitesimally small alteration, no life would exist. The universe would either expand or collapse so rapidly that no stars would form, and no life could exist. If mass and energy of the early universe were not evenly distributed, the universe would not sustain any life. Therefore, theologians and scientists conclude that the universe came into existence not by necessity or chance but by design. It’s through faith that we can clearly see and know how God, in His sovereignty, designed and planned the universe for our existence.

Faith is the essence of life. It is our faith that explains things that no scientific discovery can possibly reveal. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made (John 1:3). From the things that God created, we can fathom His great splendour, and through all the things that he has created we are moved with awe, which compels us to know a God who is exceedingly glorious. God uses this natural work to help us connect with Him eternally, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).
