A Church signpost reads, “This too shall pass, it may pass like a kidney stone, but it will pass.” The good thing about anything bad is that it too shall pass. The only question is, ‘Will we pass the test of time?’ In any situation we have a choice to breakdown or breakthrough. The truth is that the storm doesn’t last forever, the night is always followed by day, and the dead shall be raised to life. For any breakthrough in life, we need the grace of God, and He provides it abundantly through His virtues of faith, hope, resilience, fortitude and patience, that can take us beyond any pestilence.

It’s easy to breakdown when our faith lies in ourselves, in the economy, or in people, but when our faith lies in Jesus Christ, we have a solid foundation, which shall not be shaken; we have an anchor, which shall endure every storm, every pestilence. For we know that our God is greater than whatever we face and whatever comes our way.

What has this pandemic taught us? Many things, such as: God is sovereign, and life and death are in the hands of God alone. We are so insignificant that despite all our accomplishments and scientific breakthrough, we are baffled by a microscopic organism. We did not come into existence on our own. It was God who created us. Every breath that we take, is a gift from God. Everything that we have, is a gift from God. All that we are, is only through the grace of God.

Think of the time when you felt the presence of God in your life. As you begin to think, you will realise that every moment is touched by the presence of God. I feel the presence of God always, and especially in isolation, in pain, in suffering, in need, in weakness, in affliction and in sorrow. God’s grace always reaches, overpowers and strengthen us.

God is always reaching out to you, but are you reaching out to God? If you reach out to God, you will know how to breakthrough in every situation in life, because God will always guide your way. It doesn’t matter how deep the valley; God’s grace reaches much deeper. It doesn’t matter how intense the pain, great is our thankfulness to the God who soothes every pain. It doesn’t matter how long the isolation; God is with us in it all. The longer the journey, the greater is our testimony. It doesn’t matter how terrifying the darkness when God’s light shines within us.

Everything in life has a purpose, even this pandemic. For some it is finding the purpose of life itself, for others it is drawing closer to God. Our life is a journey with a purpose, which we must pass through. The journey may seem daunting, especially, if you find yourself in a valley or in the tunnel. When you are in a tunnel, don’t get stuck there, but keep moving, because there is always light at the end of the tunnel. You may find it easier to get depressed when it’s dark and gloomy, but remember, oil is made when the olives are pressed. Similarly, just because you are pressed under your circumstances does not mean you are done. It just means that God is moulding you.

God promises us that He will bring us to the other side. He will help us pass through the desert and the troubling waters.

1 But now thus says the Lord,
    he who created you, O Jacob,
    he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
    and the flame shall not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour (Isaiah 43: 1-3a, NewRSV).
