Jesus’ Infinite Mercy
The first time I heard the chaplet of the Divine Mercy, it was over the radio. The chanting filled my heart with divine love for God, and it drew me in joining, in the singing of the chaplet. This chaplet of Divine Mercy was given to Saint Faustina by Jesus Christ in an apparition. This is my favourite intercessory prayer as it includes an intercession for the salvation of the whole world. The chaplet repeats the prayer to our Eternal Father 50 times, “For the sake of Jesus’ sorrowful passion, Abba Father have mercy on us and on the whole world”.
The feast of the Divine Mercy comes every year on the 2nd Sunday of Easter, and the 9 consecutive days novena of the Diving Mercy begins on Good Friday. It is an extraordinary prayer enabling one to receive God’s mercy and grace. I have experienced the blessing of these extraordinary graces of God in my personal life, just by reciting the chaplet of the Divine Mercy.
God promises that He will defend every soul, if at the hour of their death they would say this chaplet. This chaplet, if said by any person, on behalf of someone dying, it would benefit the soul of the dying person because Jesus promises to stand between His Father and the dying person, not as a judge, but as a merciful Saviour. Even if any hardened sinner prays this chaplet, even once in their lifetime, God will fill their soul with peace and the hour of their death would be joyful.
Jesus promises that He will always answer anyone who prays this chaplet because He is very pleased with a prayer that leads to the conversion of sinners. He also promises that we will obtain anything, if what we ask for is compatible with God’s will.
Three o’clock is a special time to pray this chaplet as it is the hour of our Saviour’s death. However, any hour is a great time to pray this chaplet. If you are going though tough times, prayer always helps, as through our prayers, we allow God to intervene in our hardships. The Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people … I have heard their cry …, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them (Exo 3:7-8 NewRSV).
God’s mercy is bigger than our sins, our suffering and the plagues. If we repent and turn away from all evil, He will never withhold His great mercy from us. He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5).
We live in an extraordinary time in the history of mankind. I believe it is extraordinary because it is a time of God’s grace and mercy, which flows as a continuous spring, accessible to all mankind. It is an extraordinary time, because Jesus’s coming is drawing nearer than ever before. Of course, no one knows the exact time of Christ’s return, except the Father. However, just as a pregnant woman knows her time has come near, we too can sense the signs of time, and its time to be ready, be prepared to meet our Saviour, Jesus Christ. I always believe there isn’t a better time to be ready to meet Jesus Christ than ‘right now’. The Divine Mercy chaplet is a precious instrument that prepares us and the whole world for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
