If your heart is pure, you will find God. If your heart is corrupted, the devil will find you. We all have a quest within us to search for God, because that is the sole reason God created us. Some realise it and seek for God, whereas others deny this quest and make themselves a god, seeking their own interests. Many people begin their quest seeking for God and end up in a cult, worshipping satan instead. These people set out seeking God but since their hearts were corrupted, the devil found them instead. The devil deceived them with his lies, and they were deceived into believing that satan was god himself. Their wicked hearts were too contaminated and unable to discern the difference between God and satan, the difference between good and evil, the difference between holy and defilement.

I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by its cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.  For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you submit to it readily enough. (2 Cor 11:3-4, NewRSV)

The word of God warns us to “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life” (Pro 4:23). People may not be able to see your true motives, but God can see you through and through, and to a certain extent, the devil as well, as he too is a spiritual being. A contaminated heart is dangerous, as it is an open invitation for the devil to deceive you. It is heartbreaking to see so many of God’s own people deceived, who instead of testifying to the glory of God, glorify satan instead. They are deceived and they in turn deceive others, becoming wolf in sheep clothing. They are like those who are always learning and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth (2 Ti 3:7).

The greatest tragedy is not being able to see God, not being able to be in God’s presence. It is a pain that is indescribable, unimaginable, nothing any of us have ever experienced, and its name is hell. You will not know the agony of hell until you get there, but then there is no exit once you get there. Therefore, today is the day to be saved. Today is the day to repent and reconcile. Today is the day you resist the lure of the devil. Today is the day you renew yourself in the Holy Spirit, since tomorrow may never come.

You need to guard yourself from the corruption that can separate you from God. Some of these vices can be money, power, relationships, pride, unforgiveness and sin. Money by itself is not evil, it is a currency, a medium of exchange. However, if your love for money is greater than your love for God, satan will lure you into hell with this evil. Some people want more money than they need and have, while others hold on to what they have, never willing to share it with the poor and the needy. If money is your god, you will never see the true living God.

Power and glory can contaminate your heart and lure you away from God. Many seek the spiritual powers that come from God and instead of glorifying God, they end up glorifying themselves or glorifying satan. Be careful and watch yourself so that these temptations doesn’t lead you to hell. Why did Jesus heal the sick? He did so because He was compassionate and wanted to help them. It was never to glorify Himself, but He constantly sought to glorify His Father.

To proclaim the Gospel, one needs to have a clean heart, a heart that is willing to suffer persecution and humiliation for the will of God. A heart that constantly seeks to advance God’s kingdom and perseveres despite hardships and insults so that God may be glorified in everything. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Mt 5:8).

God has blessed us with relationships, to flourish and be fruitful. A baby wouldn’t survive if no one took care of her. We can demonstrate our love for God by loving each other. However, if our love for people supersedes our love for God, we are living in idolatry. When our devotion for people is greater than our devotion for God, our heart becomes contaminated and wicked in the eyes of God. We become unfit to behold the living God, because you have given the place of God to a mere human.

Have you heard of some ridiculous things that people say mindlessly such as, “if my dog doesn’t get to heaven, I don’t want to go there either”? A dog can feel like a real person, a close friend. Be on watch and do not exalt God’s creation more than the Creator. Your heart is contaminated when you idolised a creature more than the Creator.

Out of the wickedness of your heart you are defiled. Sometimes, people say that satan tempted them, therefore they committed sin. It is true that satan will tempt you but satan cannot make you to sin. It is out of your own free will that you sin. God is asking you to turn away from sin and embrace His righteousness, so that with a pure heart you may be able to stand in the presence of God and your eyes may be able to behold His glory. Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and of spirit, making holiness perfect in the fear of God (1 Cor 7:1).
