Have you ever made any New Year’s resolutions and within a few weeks forgotten all about it? Maybe, the next year you got wiser and you wrote your resolutions in a diary, but you forgot you even had a diary. Have you made resolutions and felt guilty of not fulfilling them or you thought it was becoming a set of legalistic rules that were ruining your life and making you frustrated?

The aim of making New Year’s resolutions is to set goals and achieve them, so it enriches your life. Most people’s resolutions involves losing weight, dropping a dress size, becoming a better person, achieving success, improving relationships, quit smoking, being happy, living healthier, living longer, etc.

ResolutionThese are great goals, it’s nice to be healthy, wealthy, happy and wise, but if that’s your resolutions are about, you are missing the big picture. Everyone, gets old and dies. What does it matter then, how many pounds a person weighs or what dress size they are or how good they look? Their body deteriorates and everything the person possesses will be left behind. There is nothing a dead person takes along with them, no companions, no wealth, no medals, no degrees and no status.

One day, I was very discouraged and I heard the Lord speak to my heart, “Flavy, look beyond the horizon”. I am telling you the same thing today, learn to look beyond the horizon, beyond what you can see in the natural. We look at our lifespans from the time of our birth to the grave, but it doesn’t end at the grave, it continues for eternity.

If you look at your life from an eternal perspective, then everything around you changes. That’s what happens to people when they get saved. It changes everything. You begin to see everything from an eternal perspective. The more you are focused on eternity, the more blessed and fulfilling your life will be.

For instance, if you want to have a lake house, there are only two ways of getting it. One is to dig a lake in front of your house and the other is to wait upon the Lord, and when He finds you one, you just move in. Which one do you think is the easier way? It is to wait upon the Lord to bless you with the desires of your heart.

When you seek after God with all your heart, He will bless you with everything you need. Mostly people go after the desires of their heart and seek their own way of getting things, which is like digging their own lake. The more you try your own way, the difficult it is, the more you seek after God, the easier you get on with life.

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need (Matthew 6: 31-33 NLT).

That’s a profound promise of God, when you seek after His Kingdom and live righteously, He will give you everything you need. In the past, you may have gone after everything you need. This year, renew your resolutions with a heavenly and eternal outlook to your life and receive God’s blessing. Seek God and you will find Him, and through Him receive everything you need, for He dearly cares for you.

Make your New Year’s resolutions about seeking God and His righteousness, make a commitment to read and study the bible, give generously, live righteously and pray fervently. The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing (Psalms 34:10 ESV).
